Sweet Nectar — New Online Exhibition
I’m excited to announce Sweet Nectar, my new online exhibition of ten photo media and print works made with and of grevillea.
These works were created over several years living on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in the Chewton Bushlands, Victoria, and Kunibidji Country at Manayingkarirra in the Northern Territory.
Grevillea has always drawn me in, its sweet nectar, its intricate form, and its presence across vastly different landscapes. Sometimes I pick a flower, drop it into my water bottle, and shake it into a kind of bush cordial. Other times, I use that same nectar to make a handmade photograph.
The Chewton works use the proto photo techniques of gum bichromate and anthotype processes, with images forming directly from plant matter laid on sensitised paper and exposed to sunlight. What you see is both plant and shadow, chemistry and sunlight, presence and absence.
One piece, an anthotype mounted on black velvet, was made using an emulsion created entirely from grevillea itself, a photograph made by the plant.
